It’s that time of year again, the season of spooky stories, carved pumpkins and creatures of the night. While bats often star as Halloween’s “villains,” the truth is they’re nature’s unsung heroes.

This Halloween, we’re busting some bat myths and shining a light on why these fascinating mammals deserve our admiration, not our fear.

🧛‍♂️ Myth 1: All bats drink blood

Fact: Out of more than 1,500 bat species in the world, only three feed on blood and all of them live in Latin America.

In South Africa, our bats are insect-eating powerhouses! Just one bat can gobble up thousands of mosquitoes,

Fact: Not at all! While some bats enjoy caves, many roost in trees, under bark, in roofs or in bat boxes. They are special artificial roosts that mimic their natural habitats.
